Revolution is a
word that is that is never very far away from a
Cuban's vocabulary. It subsumes all human life on
the island. All Cuban's are guranteed jobs,
houses, free healthcare & food for life.
Whilst the standard of living isnt as high as the
US or the UK, the Cuban people are as content as
I could make out. Everywhere you go there are
slogans relating to victorious revolutionaries,
this is in stark contrast to anywhere I have ever
been. (Left) This photograph was taken
in Santiago de Cuba, on the side of a petrol
station, it sums up for me the total consumation
of socialism on the island.

| It is astounding
to think that Cuba is not only one of the last
outposts of socialism in the world but also the
largest island in the Carribean. Unfortunately my
photograph's don't even come close to presenting
to you how beautiful Cuba is, from the mountains
in the south to the typical Carribean beaches
near Havana. Cuba has some places which have been
virtually untouched by modern tourism. (Right) This
picture was taken at the Playa Del Este near
Havana. The clarity and colours of the water just
demanded this 'photo.
Cuba's
main income is now tourism, but prior to this
recent influx, sugar was the countries biggest
income. The use of the natural resources has been
one of the reasons for the successful defeat of
the US blockade. Throughout the island most
people still live on the fat of the land. To this
end there are no big construction work or major
tourist developments throughout most of the
island, making it a great place for the
independent traveller to visit.
